SANIKILL Technology for water disinfection process
Case Study: application in a nonwovens industry
What is SANIKILL the monochloramine?
SANIKILL technology is based on monochloramine production for water treatment disinfection process.
This biocide is a chlorine-based disinfectant used for water treatment since the beginning of the last century: first adopted by several municipalities in Canada and US for the secondary disinfection of drinking water, it is now well known and wide used also in Europe and it is increasingly applied to ensure the microbiological quality of water in industrial settings as well as ensure Legionella remediation in hospitals, healthcare related structures, hotels.
In the monochloramine molecule the chlorine atom is linked to an atom on nitrogen (chemical formula NH2Cl): nitrogen is a soft element that mask and counterbalance the strong oxidizing power of chlorine, making the molecule less oxidant and reactive and thus more stable and “long-lasting”: it is like an iron fist in a velvet glove.
Thanks to its particular chemical nature, SANIKILL proved itself to be completely respectful and totally compatible with all the materials, both metals and plastics, commonly used in water distribution systems.
Indeed, the low oxidizing potential assures that no reactions can occur between the disinfectant and pipe materials.
Moreover, different pipe producing company tested monochloramine generated by SANIKILL technology against stainless steel, carbon steel and plastic (PPr and multilayer) dosing up to 100 ppm without observing any degradative issues.

SANIKILL benefits:
Sanipur has developed SANIKILL, and its benefits are:
- The production method ensures the maintenance of the right disinfectant concentration in any moment, according to the specific water consumption, avoiding disinfection by-products formation. This way of conduction, unlike shock, allows a better management of the disinfection process ensuring a control of bacterial proliferation without causing excessive chemical stress on the plants and without causing corrosion phenomena.
- Thanks to its low reactivity, SANIKILL is able to penetrate the biofilm that protects bacteria without reacting with its organic matrix, reaching and effectively killing bacteria in the inner layers.
- Given its enhanced stability, SANIKILL is able to ensure a suitable residual disinfection throughout the whole water system, reaching in adequate concentrations even dead legs or distal points of the system, and reducing the frequency of flushing required to keep the microbiological control of water until the outlets.
- Thanks to the use of special probes and with the web remote control SANIKILL offers the oppurtinity to control and manage the process of dinfection very easily from the office/home.
Case study: Bactericidal treatment in a nonwovend industry
For the bactericidal treatment in a nonwovens indusrty is planned to use monochlorine with SANIKILL-tec technology (exclusive Sanipur patented) specific for biocidal treatment waters.
For optimal treatment, a dosage of 1-5 ppm of biocide (monochloramine), produced in situ by the SANIKILL-tec generator.
The objectives are to reduce the total microbial load of the process water and the pathogenic load below the limits set during the preliminary meeting (< 1,000 UFC bacterial counts), and of course to ensure the quality of your final product.
The experience could demostrated, the introduction of SANIKILL technology is very smart and extremely effective after just a few days from the start.
SANIKILL-tec is the monochloramine generator developed by Sanipur for the disinfection of drinking water, process water and cooling towers. Compact and versatile, it can dose up to 1kg/h of monochloramine in its basic configuration. Equipped with an embedded remote control system, SANIKILL-tec can be controlled and regulated directly from an encrypted and secure web page, from which it is also possible to download data (monochloramine, flow, production, temperature, redox potential,…) and the alarm list.
Sanipur offers a service consisting of periodic inspection visits every 3 months, for the execution of all operations to verify the correct operation of the systems and the supply of reagents.
For each intervention carried out, the technicians fill out the appropriate form by providing the Client’s delegate with the most important information, before submitting it to his signature, highlighting particular abnormal situations.
